Tanjung Rhu, KedahSituated in the Northern Area of Peninsular Malaysia Kedah has a total land size of 9,425 square kilometers. It is divided into 11 districts named; Kota Setar, Padang Terap, Kubang Pasu, Langkawi (the well known scenic island), Pendang, Yan, Kuala Muda, Sik, Kulim, Bandar Baharu and Baling. Alor Setar is the state capital and administrative centre for Kedah.

Covering an area of 9,425 sq km, Kedah consists mostly of paddy fields and mountain ranges. Being one of the state producing the largest amount of rice, Kedah is known as the "Rice Bowl of Malaysia". Many hitech industrial parks are being built to garner ore income from the industrial and manufacturing sectors as well. Tourism is another sector that the State managed to tap into, especially in Langkawi.

  Langkawi Island
  Langkawi Island, Kedah Nestled against a dramatic backdrop of mountains are ancient lakes and forests, waterfalls and beaches, all of which enhance the wonder that is Langkawi. The archipelago of Langkawi contains 99 islands awaiting discovery and that is when the tide is high! At low tide, the islands can number as many as 104. Sanctuary of some of the most ancient rainforests in the world, they are teeming with exotic flora and fauna. The two main beaches, Pantai Cenang and Pantai Kok, are on the island's western coast, with Pantai Cenang being the most popular as the venue for hotels and restaurants.

The beach is lined with whispering casuarina trees or pokok rhu in Malay - hence the name of the beach - and has a pleasing, relaxing feel to it. The shallow waters on Tanjung Rhu beach makes it ideal for swimming. A sandbank links the beach it to a nearby rocky outcrop.
